Start by determining your property lines. Contact your local utility company to mark underground lines before digging. Measure the total length and mark post locations every 6-8 feet. Check local zoning laws and HOA regulations for height restrictions and setback requirements.
Dig post holes 8-10 inches wide and 30-36 inches deep (below frost line). Add 4-6 inches of gravel for drainage. Set posts plumb using a level, brace temporarily, and pour concrete mix. Allow concrete to cure for 24-48 hours before proceeding.
Once posts are set, attach 2x4 rails horizontally between posts. Standard privacy fences use 3 rails: top, middle, and bottom. Pre-drill holes to prevent splitting and use exterior-grade screws. Ensure rails are level and spaced evenly.
